Consultative Supervision

Consultative Supervision for all Professions.

Consultative Supervision is provided for all professions including university based researchers, NHS staff, counsellors, social workers, fire and rescue personnel and other professionals at risk of PTSD and vicarious trauma.

Specialist areas include providing support and treatment to staff at risk of PTSD, CPTSD and Vicarious Trauma.

Whether you are reading reports or working in person with victims or survivors our minds form images of the material we read or hear. Unfortunately, our minds do not know what is real and what is fictional and so to keep us safe act and send messages to our bodies to respond as if the detail that we read, see or hear is happening to us. This is called an empathic response.

There is no blue print on the definition of burnout, secondary traumatic stress or vicarious trauma, however, research has highlighted that each leads to transformation of the inner experience of the worker and results in profound disruption in their frame of reference. Consequently consultative supervision with a focus on the effects of trauma in the context of a professional role is extremely important.

Where work is causing the health issue or aggravating it, employers have a legal responsibility to help their employees.

Work related mental health issues must be assessed to measure the levels of risk to staff. Where a risk is identified, steps must be taken to remove it or reduce it as far reasonably practicable.
